PRE-OPERATIVE:
- Provide us with your medical history and lab exams
- Discontinue using Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, and Vitamin E for one week before and a few days after your procedure as these act as blood thinners
- It is advisable not to smoke for at least two weeks prior and one after the surgery as nicotine can impair circulation and healing
- Avoid sun exposure as not to irritate the skin
SURGERY:
The traditional technique for this procedure entails an incision which encircles the areola, continues vertically down the breast and traces the infra-mammary fold. When a more moderate lift is necessary, a different approach to this procedure is taken. It is the vertical mammaplasty. It entails an incision around the areola with a vertical limb only. There is no horizontal incision beneath the breast mound, and liposuction at the breast base to improve overall contour is used.
With each of these techniques, once the incisions have been made, excess breast tissue, skin and fat is removed. The nipples are moved to their higher locations and the skin is tightened to give a new shape to the breasts. Breast Lift surgery is generally performed with local anaesthesia and sedation, epidural or general and can last between two and three hours.
POST SURGERY:
Some bruising, swelling and a very mild pain could be expected for the first week or two but medication will be prescribed to minimise this discomfort. The same day you should be up and walking around .You may shower on the second or third day following the surgery and should refrain from lifting weights, driving and raising the arms above shoulder line for approximately 20 days. Stitches will be removed 15 days after surgery.
SUMARY:
- Surgery length: 2 to 3 hours
- Anaesthesia: local with sedation, epidural or general
- Clinic or hospital internment: day clinic or 1 night as inpatient
- Post surgery: stitches removed after 15 days
- Physical activities: walking, resume after 4 weeks, gymnastics after 12 weeks
BREASTLIFT
(Mastopexy) and Corrective Surgeries
DESCRIPTION:
Some factors such as the effect of gravity, weight loss, pregnancy, reduction of the skin’s natural elasticity affect the appearance of a woman’s breasts. A Breast Lift or Mastopexy is performed to return to a youthful shape and lift breasts that have sagged throughout time. The procedure can also reduce areola size (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), and can be combined with breast augmentation for added volume and firmness.
